about

The two singles, plus other lost tracks recorded on cassette without a lot of forethought, 1989-1993 in Sacramento, California

credits

released June 5, 2020

Kris: Vocals, guitar, bass, chord organ
Scott: Vocals, guitar, chord organ
Other Scott: Bass
Jason: Drums

Songs mostly by Kris; some by Scott (not to be confused with Other Scott), and Jason definitely did not write anything, the lazy little shit.

SC#32, 2020, Secret Center Records.

"A debut 4-song EP by Bagpipe Operation caught my attention in the Ajax catalogue (since Time Adams actually sounded excited about something he was trying to sell) and won me over within a few seconds fo receiving it in the mail and putting it on my turntable. They seem to use about six different discernable words on the whole record, including "Molten Boy" and "Thank the Lord" (that's five, and "salvation" makes six), they produce the smoothest jukebox guitar sound (slyly mouthed-along-to), and in general the whole thing is like a summer breeze would be if it didn't waft tar fumes through the window. To order their record, consult your Ajax catalogue. To sign them up to play at your wedding, contact the Secret Center record label". - Incite mag

"Bagpipe Operation - Mt. Lavaty (7" EP) (Harriet) - Bagpipe Operation's songs are tiny, handcrafted affairs (there are five on this record, all under three minutes), manufactured with a four-track, some knitting needles and a keen appreciation of Saturday morning cartoon music. The band's guitars buzz like voices heard through soup cans connected with wire, and its keybards, drums and (occasional) vocals do the same - it's amazing how much treble fits onto one little record. "67 Melody Lane" opens the disc with a volley of peppy chords overlaid with an atonal organ bit that veers about like a drunken bee. "My Face" is the closest thing here to a conventional pop song, but "Pinky" and "Habanera" put Bagpipe Operation's mesa-flat production to best use. - Douglas Wolk, Alt. Press
